Maintaining Your NAWT Certificate of Completion
Once you complete any one of the NAWT training courses and become NAWT certified, your training certificate will be valid for two years. To maintain your certification you will need to complete eight (8) hours of NAWT approved continuing education. You will need to submit your renewal form on our website along with your certificate of attendance or certificate of completion for the training credits obtained. Your renewal must have this documentation to be processed. For more information…
Continuing Education
First, Certificate of Completion lasts for two years from the date of when you took your Certificate of Completion training. At the time of your anniversary date, you will be required to show that you have met the continuing education requirement during the two-year period. The requirement is to have 8 hours (1 day) of training on onsite wastewater treatment system subjects. You can submit your documentation any time during the two- year period (but at least 6 months after the Certificate of Completion or renewal date), and your Certificate of Completion will be renewed at the time of the anniversary date.

What Counts for Certification Renewal?
Can I get outside training for my continuing education credit hours?
Are there fees associated with certification renewals?
What happens if I don’t get my continuing education completed before my anniversary date?
NAWT offers a one-year grace period from the expiration/renewal date of your certification to obtain the continuing education credit hours necessary for the renewal. Your certificate will be renewed for two years from the original expiration/renewal date. Please note, while NAWT gives a one-year grace period to obtain your renewal credits, your training certification will show as EXPIRED on our website and in your NAWT Member profile. If you pass the one-year grace period, you will be required to retake the full class and exam to restart your certification with a new renewal period based off of the new class or workshop.
Summary of NAWT Renewal Requirements:
- Must complete 8 hours of approved training in onsite wastewater treatments systems.
- Renew on or before your certification expiration/renewal date.
- There is a 6-month waiting period to start obtaining CE credit hours from the time of receiving your initial certification. After the initial certification, you can obtain CE credits anytime during your two year renewal period.

- You cannot use the same continuing education credit hours for more than one renewal period. (i.e. credit you use in 2024 cannot be used towards a renewal for 2026).
- You must attach a certificate of attendance or a certificate of completion will all renewal form submissions, your renewal WILL NOT be processed without this.
- You have a one-year grace period to obtain CEU credit hours, your certification will not be in good standing during this grace period and will show expired.
